The fifth season is saved: The Klosterneuburg Summer of Culture moves into the land with myth days and short-short film fun
The culture scene is giving a welcome and clear sign of life this summer with Mythos Days and a shortened Shortynale. For a long time, the cancellation of the popular summer festivals Mythos Film on Rathausplatz and Shortynale was a possibility due to Corona protection measures. Thanks to the easing of restrictions, Klosterneuburg will not have to go without culture this year. The operklosterneuburg has also put together a Corona version for children, with two performance dates in the Babenbergerhalle.
City Councillor for Culture, Verena Pöschl, is delighted that the screens will not remain empty this summer: „Film, as a holistic art form, combines image, sound, music, and acting, and thus has the power to transport us to other worlds. You could say it's a vacation in short form. I would therefore like to thank everyone who makes the Mythos Filmtage and shortynale possible – especially in times of Corona – and who takes all Klosterneuburg residents on this journey.“
Mag. Franz Brenner, Head of the City Municipality's Office of Cultural Affairs, expressed his relief that everything could still be put together: „There hasn't been a summer without festival events in Klosterneuburg since 1989! operklosterneuburg, the Mythos Film Festival, and Shortynale are firmly anchored in the minds of Klosterneuburg's residents. With the program that has now been quickly created, despite all odds and with the help of everyone involved, the three festivals can once again be remembered and present themselves this summer, and that is very pleasing. Our loyal audience deserves it – let's look forward to wonderful cinema, short film, and opera events after this long cultural abstinence!“
Instead of the Myth Film Festival From August 7th to 12th, Mythos Film Days at Babenbergerhalle The program focuses on European films and spans a range from literary adaptations, children's films, and historical dramas to comedies. Film screenings begin at 8:00 PM every day, with admission starting at 7:15 PM. Due to corona protection measures, there will be assigned seating.

At the opening on August 13th, starting at 11:00 AM, in addition to current short films from the festival program, the film „Sea of Shadows“ by Lower Austrian director Richard Ladkani will be shown. On the second festival day, starting at 5:00 PM, there will be competition films, and to conclude on August 15th, starting at 5:00 PM, there will be competition films and at 8:30 PM, the awards ceremony. The Shortynale, known as a cozy film festival, will attempt to offer the audience a feel-good atmosphere this extraordinary year as well, making the viewing of short films, personal introductions, and the awards ceremony in the Babenbergerhalle the usual memorable event. The team at operklosterneuburg, led by director Michael Garschall, can announce a small sensation: the popular children's performance can take place. On August 29 and 30 at 4:00 PM each day in the Babenbergerhalle, under the title „A Feast for the Ears at the Opera House" ‒ Tony Makkaroni sings the most beautiful opera arias“ played. Andy Hallwaxx (Moderation and Tony Makkaroni), Christoph Campestrini (Musical Direction), Florina Ilie (Soprano, pictured left), Clemens Kerschbaumer (Tenor), Lukas Johan (Baritone) as well as the string quartet of the Beethoven Philharmonic promise entertaining opera adventures of the highest caliber.
