From November 11th to 15th, Klosterneuburg will once again be dedicated to Saint Leopold. In addition to an amusement park awaiting visitors on Rathausplatz (Town Hall Square), the traditional barrel sliding over the 1,000-bucket barrel is also one of the most popular attractions.
Due to circumstances related to the pandemic, the Leopoldimarkt in Klosterneuburg will be held on a smaller scale. Under the title „Wiesbauer's Leopold in the Park“This year, the Wiesbauer showman family from Klosterneuburg is organizing an amusement park on Rathausplatz.
From Thursday, November 11th to Monday, November 15th, 2021, a funfair with around ten rides will provide fun and entertainment for the whole family on Rathausplatz. Access to the funfair will only be possible with proof of 3G (vaccinated, recovered, or tested) – subject to any changes in legal measures.
Highlights await at the monastery for Leopoldi as well: barrel sliding in the Binderstadl, a benefit concert on November 11th, and the Pontifical Mass on November 15th in the monastery church, followed by the Leopold blessing on the monastery square. The traditional „Gschirrmarkt“ (dish market) with goods of all kinds will take place two days later, on November 17th, from 7:00 AM to 6:00 PM on Rathausplatz.
Gastronomy and market stalls will not be offered this year because 3G checks cannot be carried out in the freely accessible area of the Upper Town. The wine tasting in the Babenbergerhalle will also not take place.
Mayor Stefan Schmuckenschlager is pleased that Klosterneuburg can celebrate the state holiday this year: „This year's festival, in its reduced form, is primarily for children and families. That way, we can celebrate our patron saint in a cozy atmosphere.“
„The Feast Day of Saint Leopold is a significant part of our regional identity. Therefore, I am pleased that this traditional festival can take place in Klosterneuburg, even if in a reduced form,“ said Prelate Maximilian Fürnsinn, Administrator of the Klosterneuburg Abbey.
Margarete Kaufmann, MAS, City Councilor for Tourism, adds: „Leopoldi is one of the last big outdoor festivals of the year, and we want to ensure our guests from all over Lower Austria have an enjoyable and, above all, safe stay in Klosterneuburg.“
