„Herrera & Dubuffet: A Spark of Light in This World“

With this exhibition, the Museum Gugging is once again focusing on the work of a female artist in 2025. For the first time in the German-speaking world, the museum is presenting a retrospective of the Uruguayan artist Magalí Herrera (1914–1992), which was previously shown in 2024 at the Collection de l’Art Brut in Lausanne, Switzerland. She engaged in an exciting correspondence with Jean Dubuffet (1901–1985), who coined the term Art Brut, and her detailed images were acquired by the Collection de l’Art Brut in Lausanne. Herrera worked tirelessly to create metaphorical universes composed of dots and short lines. Dubuffet wrote appreciatively in one of his letters to Herrera: „Dear friend Magalí Herrera, you feel the desire, as you write, to be a spark of light in this world, and that is precisely what you are.“
