Photographer Christine de Grancy and curator Nina Ansperger will guide you through the special exhibition „Gugging Inspires! From Bowie to Roth.“
On September 8, 1994, David Bowie and Brian Eno visited the Haus der Künstler in Gugging, arranged by André Heller. They wanted to experience the atmosphere of this magical place and its people to find inspiration for the recordings of their album „1. Outside.“ The photographer Christine de Grancy accompanied the visit of the extraordinary musicians and captured the encounters with the Gugging artists as concentrated moments. For a long time, these photos were in archives until, after David Bowie's death in 2017, they were first exhibited at the Crone Gallery and honored with a 10-page photo report in ZEIT MAGAZIN. This current special exhibition shows the photographs for the first time at the place where they were taken.
In a personal tour that begins in front of the Artists„ House, photographer Christine de Grancy, who was honored last year as a “Leica Classic„ on the occasion of her 80th birthday, will report on how she experienced these touching encounters. Nina Ansperger, the new artistic and scientific director of the Museum Gugging and curator of the exhibition “Gugging Inspired! From Bowie to Roth," will talk about the background to Bowie's interest in Gugging, the creation of the experimental and sophisticated album, and how the friendship with the Gugging artists and David Bowie lived on.
