Bunbury

The friends Jack and Algernon, two gentlemen of upper society, have each found a solution to dedicate themselves exclusively to their pleasures in their free time: While Jack, who resides in the country, has invented a carefree brother named Ernest so he can impersonate him in the city, Algernon uses his non-existent invalid friend Bunbury to escape to the country whenever he pleases. When Jack falls in love with Algernon's cousin Gwendolen, and Algernon in turn falls for Jack's ward Cecily, both pretend to be Ernest, as both women wish to marry a man named Ernest. When the two fake „Ernests,“ Cecily, and then also Gwendolen and her mother Lady Bracknell, meet at Jack's country villa, the chaos is complete, and the country estate becomes the scene of a series of mistaken identities. In the end, only one thing can help: staying Ernest!
