Tobogganing for Leopoldi

The custom of barrel sliding was first mentioned over 200 years ago in the so-called Eipeldauerbriefe. The young Eipeldauer describes that he too „slid with a board‘ in November 1813. The tradition is of course much older, but was likely only reserved for winegrowers in the past, who would slide over the barrel to fill it.
Wherever the roots of the custom may lie, if you slip over the thousand-bucket barrel, it is said that every good wish comes true.
